What is cctrust.dll?

The cctrust.dll process belongs to the Common Client ccTrust library file and is used to access Symantec components.

The cctrust.dll file is known to exist in the following sizes:

95,480 bytes.

95,928 bytes.

Cctrust.dll Errors

Discussed in this article are two common cctrust.dll errors and their solutions.

Error 1

When you start your computer after installing Norton Internet Security or Norton Personal Firewall, you may receive the following error message:

“CFGWIZ.EXE – Unable to locate component. . . . cctrust.dll was not found”

Cause of the Error

This cctrust.dll issue usually occurs when you install a Norton 2004 product over a previous version.

Basically, the error occurs when the previous Norton product is not uninstalled completely from the computer. Leftover files of a previous version of a Norton product conflict with the files and processes of Norton Personal Firewall or Norton Internet Security.

In this particular instance, a process associated with your previous version of Norton named ccRegVfy.exe loads automatically at system startup and causes the cctrust.dll error to appear.

Note: To ensure complete removal of your Norton products, check with Symantec if an uninstaller tool is available for your product. If an uninstaller tool is available, use that, otherwise use the help of a reliable third-party uninstaller, such as Perfect Uninstaller, to completely remove your Norton product.

Solution

To repair the cctrust.dll error that occurs when you install a Norton 2004 product over a previous version, disable ccRegVfy.exe from loading at system startup. To achieve this, perform the following steps:

Click Start and then select the Run command.

Next, in the Open box, type the msconfig command and then click the OK button.

In the System Configuration Utility box that displays, open the Startup tab.

Locate and clear the checkbox before ccRegVfy.exe.

Next, click the Apply button to save your changes, and then OK to exit the System Configuration Utility.

Restart your PC.

Error 2

When you start your system after updating the Norton Firewall, you may encounter the following error:

"CCregvfy.exe unable to locate DLL"

Cause of the Error

Generally, the above error occurs due to a missing cctrust.dll file.

Solution

To repair this error message, download the cctrust.dll file from a reliable and trustworthy free on-line DLL directory and paste the file into the %system% folder.

Note: %system% is a variable that points to the system folder. By default, if you are using Windows 95/98/ME it is C:\Windows\System, for Windows NT/2000 it is C:\Winnt\System32, and for Windows XP/Vista it is Windows\System32.

In the end, if you find that your Norton protective software is giving you a lot of trouble, you may switch to an error-free but equally potent protective software, such as Antivirus Plus and XoftSpySE.

Gapi32.dll is a Microsoft Mail Configuration Library that contains functions for Microsoft mail protocols that help in creating and maintaining emails. Removal of the gapi32.dll file may prevent Microsoft Exchange from functioning properly.

  Gapi32.dll Issues

Discussed here are some common gapi32.dll issues and the methods you can use to resolve them.

Gapi32.dll error in Microsoft Office 2000

When you run Norton WinDoctor on a computer with Office 2000 installed on it, you may receive the following error:

“Mapisrvr.exe. Cannot access the necessary file Gapi32.dll.”

Cause of the Error

This gapi32.dll error typically occurs because Norton WinDoctor is unable to locate the gapi32.dll file.

Workaround Solution

If you are not experiencing any problem with Windows or any other program, it is safe to ignore the above error message. You can do this by configuring Norton WinDoctor settings to ignore this error:

To achieve this, perform the following steps:

When the error is reported, go to the View menu of WinDoctor and click Advanced.

Next, right-click the error message and then click the Ignore Selected Problem option.

Close WinDoctor and then restart it.

Gapi32.dll error in Windows XP

The error given below may occur when you run Norton WinDoctor on a Windows XP computer:

“C:\Windows\System32\Mapisrvr.exe" cannot access a necessary file, "Gapi32.dll"”

Cause of the Error

This gapi32.dll error occurs on Windows XP when WinDoctor is unable to locate the gapi32.dll file in the Windows\System32 folder.

If you try to use WinDoctor to repair the above error, WinDoctor reports back that it cannot locate the gapi32.dll file, even when the file is present on your hard disk.

Solution

You can fix this issue by using either of the following methods:

Method 1: Copy the gapi32.dll file to Windows\System32 folder

To achieve this, perform the following steps:

Double-click on the My Computer icon on your desktop.

Navigate to C:\Program Files\Common Files\System\Mapi\1033\NT folder.

Next, right-click gapi32.dll and select Copy.

Next, navigate to C:\Windows\System32.
Note: In the above example, C: is taken to be the drive on which Windows is installed. By default, Windows is installed on the C: drive. If you have Windows installed on some other drive, for example the D drive, then navigate to D:\Windows\System32.

Right-click the System32 folder and click Paste.

Restart your computer.

Method 2: Configure WinDoctor to ignore the above error

As the above error is reported due to an issue with WinDoctor and not because of any problem with Windows files, you can safely configure WinDoctor to ignore this error. The steps to ignore the error are given in the first section of this article.

Apart from issues with WinDoctor, gapi32.dll errors, such as “gapi32.dll was not found” or “The file gapi32.dll missing” may also occur due to malware infection or registry issues.

Malware programs are known to corrupt DLL files by injecting invalid codes. If the copy of gapi32.dll on your PC is infected, programs may fail to access the file. To prevent gapi32.dll errors due to malware infection, install reliable antimalware software, such as Antivirus Plus and XoftSpySE.

Also, ensure that entries related to gapi32.dll in the registry remain valid. To ensure this, it is necessary that you regularly scan your registry, using reliable registry cleaning software, such as RegGenie, to remove invalid and corrupt entries from the registry.

If the above errors are the result of a missing wmaudsdk.dll file, download the missing DLL file from a reliable free online DLL directory and save it in its default location. After you have saved the wmaudsdk.dll, you need to register the DLL. To achieve this, perform the following steps:

Click Start and then select Run.

In the open box, type regsvr32 \wmaudsdk.dll and click the OK button.

Perform a malware scan

Malware, such as viruses, worms, and trojans deliberately corrupt DLL files by altering the codes embedded in these files. If the wmaudsdk.dll file on your PC is infected, you may receive the “wmaudsdk.dll not found” error every time an application tries to access this DLL.

To prevent wmaudsdk.dll errors due to malware infection, perform a malware scan on your entire system using advanced protective tools, such as Antivirus Plus and XoftSpy.

Perform a registry scan

A corrupt registry may also cause recurring wmaudsdk.dll errors. If you suspect that invalid entries in the registry are the cause of wmaudsdk.dll errors, scan your registry using reliable and efficient registry cleaning software, such as RegGenie, to remove invalid and corrupt registry entries.

87,552 bytes

Removal of the nssutil3.dll file may prevent you from loading the Firefox browser.

Nssutil3.dll issues with BitDefender and Bullgaurd

Certain protective software, such as BitDefender and Bullgaurd falsely report nssutil3.dll as a trojan and delete the file. As a result, users who have these protective tools installed on their computers may receive the following error, when they try to open the Firefox browser:

“This application failed to start because nssutil3.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem.”

The error is not resolved when you download and install the nssutil3.dll file, as BitDefender or Bullgaurd will immediately delete the nssutil3.dll file again.

Resolution

To repair the error, update your protective tool with the latest virus definitions and reinstall Firefox. Try to open the Firefox browser again and see if the error is fixed.

If the error persists after updating the protective tool, make an exception for BitDefender or Bullgaurd to ignore the Firefox folder when performing a scan, and then reinstall Firefox.

If the above steps fail to resolve the issue, you may want to switch to a different protective tool or Internet browser.

Besides issues with certain protective software, other common reasons for a nssutil3.dll missing or nssutil3.dll not found error are:

Missing nssutil3.dll

Malware infection

Registry issues

Depending on the cause of the nssutil3.dll error, you may perform the following steps to fix the nssutil3.dll missing or not found error:

Download nssutil3.dll from the Internet

If the nssutil3.dll error is occurring due to a missing nssutil3.dll file, download and install the nssutil3.dll file from a reliable and trustworthy online free DLL directory.

Perform a virus/malware scan

Malware, such as a virus and trojans deliberately corrupt DLLs by deleting or altering the codes embedded in them. If a malware has corrupted the copy of the nssutil3.dll file on your system, an nssutil3.dll error may be generated every time an application, such as Firefox, tries to access the infected file.

To fix nssutil3.dll errors occurring due to malware infection, scan and clean your entire system, using advanced security tools, such as Antivirus Plus and XoftSpySE. Also, to prevent future nssutil3.dll errors due to malware infection, regularly update your security tools with the latest virus definitions and security updates.

Run a Registry Scan

You may also receive recurring nssutil3.dll errors if the entries of this file in the registry are invalid, corrupt, or removed. Scan your registry regularly using reliable registry cleaning software, such as RegGenie, to ensure that the registry stores only valid and correct information. You can use RegGenie to perform custom scans to identify and rectify DLL errors, such as nssutil3.dll errors.
