How to Remove Oobefldr.dll and Disable Windows Vista Welcome Center

Oobefldr.dll is a component that belongs to Microsoft Corporation’s Windows Operating System.  The Oobefldr.dll fie loads the Windows Vista Welcome Center which contains links to various applications and help articles.

Error Message:

RunDLL

Error loading oobefldr.dll

oobefldr.dll is not a valid Win32 application.

Possible Cause:

A possible cause of this error is a conflict between third party programs and the Welcome Center software.

Resolution:

If you would like to disable the Welcome Center, perform the following steps. However, note that this will require you to edit your registry. Please create a backup prior to making any changes. This will ensure that you can revert to your original registry settings should any issues arise.

1. Go to Start and then click on Run.
2. Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run.
3. Right click on WindowsWelcomeCenter.
4. Select Delete.
5. If you are asked to confirm deletion, select Yes.
6. Exit the registry and reboot your computer.

The issue should no longer persist.

If you ever need to run the Windows Welcome Center again you may do so manually.

You should always keep your registry clean and error free. You can do this by running a registry cleaner to sweep away remnants of programs that may cause errors.
