What is cctrust.dll?

Error 1
When you start your computer after installing Norton Internet Security or Norton Personal Firewall, you may receive the following error message:
?CFGWIZ.EXE – Unable to locate component. . . . cctrust.dll was not found?
Cause of the Error
This cctrust.dll issue usually occurs when you install a Norton 2004 product over a previous version.
Basically, the error occurs when the previous Norton product is not uninstalled completely from the computer. Leftover files of a previous version of a Norton product conflict with the files and processes of Norton Personal Firewall or Norton Internet Security.
In this particular instance, a process associated with your previous version of Norton named ccRegVfy.exe loads automatically at system startup and causes the cctrust.dll error to appear.
Note: To ensure complete removal of your Norton products, check with Symantec if an uninstaller tool is available for your product. If an uninstaller tool is available, use that, otherwise use the help of a reliable third-party uninstaller, such as Perfect Uninstaller, to completely remove your Norton product.
Solution
To repair the cctrust.dll error that occurs when you install a Norton 2004 product over a previous version, disable ccRegVfy.exe from loading at system startup. To achieve this, perform the following steps:
- Click Start and then select the Run command.
- Next, in the Open box, type the msconfig command and then click the OK button.
- In the System Configuration Utility box that displays, open the Startup tab.
- Locate and clear the checkbox before ccRegVfy.exe.
- Next, click the Apply button to save your changes, and then OK to exit the System Configuration Utility.
- Restart your PC.
Error 2
When you start your system after updating the Norton Firewall, you may encounter the following error:
"CCregvfy.exe unable to locate DLL"
Cause of the Error
Generally, the above error occurs due to a missing cctrust.dll file.
Solution
To repair this error message, download the cctrust.dll file from a reliable and trustworthy free on-line DLL directory and paste the file into the %system% folder.
Note: %system% is a variable that points to the system folder. By default, if you are using Windows 95/98/ME it is C:\Windows\System, for Windows NT/2000 it is C:\Winnt\System32, and for Windows XP/Vista it is Windows\System32.
