Fix Emsmdb32.dll Related Errors

Emsmdb32.dll is a module that is a part of Microsoft Office Outlook belonging to the Microsoft Corporation.

Issue:

Emsmdb32.dll does not respond to multithreaded programs.

Symptom:

Multithreaded programs that utilize MAPI causes the dynamic link library file Emsmdb32 to stop responding in Microsoft Outlook.

Cause:

Multithreaded programs use only one session to log on to different mailboxes.

Fix:

If the user is on Outlook 97, Outlook 98, or Outlook 2000, stop using these versions. Use Outlook 2002 instead of the above mentioned programs.

Each thread must have a MAPI session.

Double check that the Contacts address book is not present in the profile. Remove the Contacts address book from the profile.

Issue:

An error in emsmdb32.dll makes customs MAPI programs quit unexpectedly.

Symptoms:

Running a custom MAPI program is interrupted by an error in the Emsmdb32.dll file.

Cause:

This issue is quite possibly caused by a heavy load on the Exchange Server machine.

Fix:

Download the August 2004 Exchange 2000 Server Post-Service Pack 3 Update Rollup.

You should have Microsoft Exchange 2000 Service Pack 3 (SP3) before you can install this particular update. If you do not have this service pack yet, make sure to download it from Microsoft?s website. You may find instructions on how to download the latest Exchange 2000 Server service pack on the Microsoft website.

Restart your computer after installing the update for the changes to take effect.

For the hotfix to work properly, Microsoft Exchange Server 5.5 Service Pack 4 (SP4) must already be installed on the system.

Issue:

Outlook 2003 stops responding after network connectivity is restored when a third party MAPI starts before Outlook 2003.

Hotfix Requirements for the MS Office Outlook 2003 post-Service Pack 1 hotfix which includes Emsmdb32.dll:

Office 2003 SP1 must be installed in the system.
Rebooting after the hotfix is applied is unnecessary.
Registry modification is unnecessary.

Note that the hotfix has been tested more extensively on machines that have Office 2003 with Office 2003 SP1 installed. Machines that run Office 2003 without Office 2003 SP1 installed are supported but not recommended as some file conflicts may happen.

Issue:

MAPI programs close unexpectedly without an error message after requesting a long term entry ID from Microsoft Outlook. This is for MAPI programs that run with the Pageheap option set to Enabled.

Hotfix requirements for the Outlook 2003 post-Service Pack 2 hotfix package (Emsmdb32.dll):

Users must have Office 2003 Service Pack 2 installed.
Rebooting after the hotfix is applied is unnecessary.
Registry modification is unnecessary.

Note that this version of the hotfix may be installed on a computer that is running Office 2003 with Service Pack 2 installed or Office 2003 with Service Pack 1 installed. Greater testing has been done on machines that run Office 2003 with Service Pack 2. Although running Office 2003 with Service Pack 1 on machines is supported, this configuration is not recommended. Some file conflicts may occur in this case.
